La traduzione corretta di assicurazione nel senso di polizza assicurativa è di norma “insurance”, non “assurance” o “assicuration” (che non esiste): L'assicurazione è scaduta, the insurance has run out. Tuttavia, per quanto riguarda l'assicurazione sulla vita esistono sia “life insurance” che “life assurance”: la prima si riferisce alla copertura contro particolari eventi che potrebbero verificarsi (ad esempio, morire prima dei 60 anni) e viene liquidata solo se questi hanno luogo; mentre la seconda viene liquidata dopo il decesso della persona assicurata. Normalmente “assurance” significa assicurazione nel senso di promessa, parola: Mi hanno dato la loro parola che l'assegno arriverà entro la fine della settimana, they gave me their assurance that the cheque would arrive by the end of the week.
